The Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs began the 2017–2018 season strongly. After 5–0 and 13–12 wins over Pacific Lutheran in a double-header, the Bulldogs went on to win seven additional games. The nine-game streak that opened the season ended with a loss to Texas-Tyler.

After three losses to Texas-Tyler, Texas Lutheran responded with a hat trick of wins in their series against McMurry and a clean sweep of Texas-Dallas. The team lost the first game to Schreiner University by a score of 6–5 but responded with 8–0 and 6–1 victories to take the series.

Later in the season, the Bulldogs improved on their opening-season winning streak, posting 11 straight wins between April 27 and May 25. The streak extended into the postseason, including wins over Trinity, Southwestern, and Centenary. Texas Lutheran lost to Concordia in a Division III World Series game but responded with an extra-inning win over Swarthmore and narrow 9–7 and 5–4 wins over Concordia to advance to the championship series.

The Texas-Lutheran Bulldogs ultimately fell in two games to Teas-Tyler. The team finished the season with a cumulative record of 42–12.
